Catalina Island [part 1]
After we came back from Las Vegas Orlaith and I were in Los Angeles on our own for about 10 days. This gave us the perfect opportunity to do some touristy stuff and to spend many hours by the pool. Since many of the trips we had planned for this summer had fallen through I decided to live in the moment and take a mini vacation to Catalina Island.
We packed our bags early one morning and made the 2.5 hour drive to San Pedro (it would have taken 40 minutes but I was too scared to drive on the freeway... don't ask!) and from there we caught the ferry to Avalon in Catalina Island. I went, for the first time in my life, without booking anything in advance. I paid for our ferry tickets at the port, where we arrived with only minutes to catch our boat, and when we arrived in Avalon we had no hotel booked. But hey, what's life without a bit of adventure?
If we hadn't found a hotel for the night our last resort would have been to get the night ferry home. But luckily we did find a hotel, and it was one of the most beautiful places I've stayed in all my life. The hotel was called La Paloma Las Flores and it was like a slice of paradise on this tiny little island. Even though we did spend time exploring the island during our stay we also spent a lot of our time in the hotel grounds, enjoying the company of the friendly owners and their rabbit who made us feel so welcome!
