Orlaith and I hit the ice again last week after our first successful attempt at skating a couple of weeks ago. This time we went in the evening, which was a great experience. It's not often I get to go out and do fun things after dark these days, but in the winter when it gets dark early it feels a bit special being out when the sun has gone down.

This time round Orlaith was a little less confident. The 'children's' area was being used for less experienced older children and adults to practise and so there were lots of big people falling over around us which must have been a bit unnerving for a little person. Where we went before there was no one under the age of 8 allowed in the area apart from adults helping the children. It was a lot more controlled.

Out of the 2 venues we went skating, the first being Somerset House and second being the Natural History Museum, which both only have ice rinks for a couple of weeks over Christmas, I much preferred Somerset House. Everything was just a little bit nicer there, the skates were more comfortable, the staff more friendly, and everything was included in the price, at the Natural History Museum they were actually charging (a lot) for children to use the penguins which was a bit cheeky.

  4. My stomach is in knots. I love London even more around the holiday season.
I've skated at the NHM's ice rink but not the SH. One thing i don't like about London is how everything is so expensive. Where we live in Canada going skating is free and they even provide the skates for free, but they don't have such beautiful lightings as London :).

  6. I love ice skating, it looks like you both had tons of fun! We have multiple ice rinks where I live [NYC, USA], but I haven't been to any of them yet this year because it is unseasonably warm. I did go once when I was on vacation though, ice skating is always fun...I wish I did it more!

That's really neat that they have a "children's area" at all, I've never heard of that at any of the rinks I've been to!

Visiting from SITS, congrats on being featured :)
